It is true.

No matter how much talk and "evidence" there is to negate it, violence against women and children exists.

But is there a worst of all? Is it not justterrible that women seem to have to suffer this "treatment", and that there is far too little done about it? That the so called "men" of our society can degrade them to a level where not even the meanest of animals can be found and get away with it??

Very often... No, this is the wrong wording. Far too often have I heard the stories of women who have been abused, battered and molested by either husbands or people who they thought to be friends. Women who tell tales of being attacked and grabbed, pushed down and raped by total strangers who do not seem to understand the atrocities they are committing.

If you dare...

Where is it written that males of any species can hurt the females of that same species without anything being put in their way, either before or after the fact?
Is it not strange that when a man comes home drunk and in this daze "accidentally" kills his wife or girlfriend, he gets off with a warning, or a few years in jail?
And that a woman is thrown into prison for life when she, after years of suffering indignifying treatment and all kinds of abuse, finally steps over a point and kills the person who does that to her?
To me, and many with me, this is sick. Very sick.

Do the men who commit these crimes understand what they do? No, they don't. They have no common sense for that, otherwise they would not do it.

I believe that it is very hard for most men to fully understand what an abused woman goes through. But thank the higher spirits that there are men who try to understand, and who fill in with support and care what they cannot understand.

There is a lot of violence acted out against women outside their homes.
But domestic violence, the anger directed at a woman inside the house where she is supposed to be able to feel safe, is much more wide-spread than most people dare to acknowledge. The number of women who die each year by the hand of their friend or husband who "lost it for a moment", is frightening...

Battered women

Something that a friend told me:

"13 years ago I visited my close friend who was managing a shelter for battered women. Paul, at least one of those women had been beaten so badly, you couldn't even tell what color she normally was."

Links

Here are some links to places where you can see that this is not idle talk. The problem is real, and the consequences are serious...

Men march against rape
(Johannesburg, South Africa, November 1997)
From this page: "At least eight women will have been raped by the time you read to the end of this page."

Sheet on domestic violence
(New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence)
From this page: "Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women between the ages of 15 and 44 in the United States; more than car accidents, muggings and rapes combined."

Bad

"Did you hear that Johnny accidentally killed his wife?"
"Yeah, the poor guy had a bad day at work. Well, his wife never understood him anyway."

Let us hope and pray that "buddy talk" like this is never heard again...
