Philosophy

Poor start.

Philosopher
I listened to a podcast on philosophy. The one I picked was a bad choice. That, or I don't understand philosophy.

The talk initially was about an Australian philosopher who apparently thought humans were the pinnacle of evolution. Until her canoe was attacked by a crocodile and she realised that the crocodile considered her no more than food. Her initial thought, so it was said, was: "This can't be. I'm an elevated human. I can't be animal food." Of course this came out after she'd been rescued.

That shocked me, because how far do you have to distance yourself from nature and the world to be so disconnected? Mankind isn't the big ruler of nature. MankindΒ thinks it is, but take away the weapons, the cars, the clothes and all the tech and mankind is somewhere at the bottom or perhaps halfway up the food chain. Hello, Crocodile.

Then the podcast went on along the line of: "I think that she thinks that Plato thought..., and that Aristotle thought..."

That made me stop halfway through this podcast. I don't believe this is philosophy. Prove me wrong, or tell me where to go to learn about actual philosophy.
