De EU wil een enorme inbreuk op de privacy van burgers plegen. Ik ben het hier volstrekt niet mee eens.

Beste lezer,

Ik wil mijn grote zorgen uitspreken over de ideeën van de EU om ALLE privéberichten van ALLE EU-inwoners te gaan controleren.

Ja, ik weet het, het gaat 'alleen om kindermisbruik' en zo, maar dat is een mooi verhaal waar ik niet in geloof. In het begin zal het daar wel om gaan, maar het is dan heel makkelijk om een aftakking te maken naar... allerlei andere 'controles'.

Ik werk sinds meer dan 40 jaar in de IT, en ik kan u vertellen dat dit soort automatische controles niet werkt. Kijk naar Apple, dat eenzelfde poging ondernam. Die zijn ermee gestopt. Een overdaad aan valse alarmen zullen bij de menselijke controleurs terechtkomen, die dan vrolijk al die privéberichten gaan doorploegen. Dat vind ik geen prettig idee.

Het motto: "als je niets te verbergen hebt, hoef je je geen zorgen te maken", is een bij voorbaat neergestorte vlieger: ik heb niets te verbergen, maar ik wil gewoon niet dat vreemden in mijn privésfeer gaat snuffelen. (Voor zover er tegenwoordig nog iets privé is, heet dat.)

Daarnaast zijn de criminelen, die op grote schaal in de kinderporno zitten, hier waarschijnlijk al heel wat stappen op vooruitgelopen. Die weten al lang omwegen om deze inbreuk op iemands privéleven te omzeilen. Het zijn weer de gewone burgers, wiens privacy op deze manier wordt aangetast en gemolesteerd.

Al met al is dit een aanslag op de levenssfeer van miljoenen mensen waar ik absoluut tegen ben. Ik hoop dan ook dat u luid en duidelijk 'NEE' gaat zeggen tegen dit voornemen.

Dear reader,

Through this mail I want to express my severe worries about the ideas in the EU to scan ALL private messages of ALL EU citizens.

Yes, I know, it's 'only for child abuse' etc., but that's a beautiful tale I don't believe. At first that will be the focus, I'm sure, but it will be very simple to create a small change and implement other 'important controlling' options.

I'm in IT for more than 40 years, and I can tell you this kind of checks will not work. Look at Apple, who tried to implement a similar thing. They stopped that too. A huge load of false positives will go to the attention of human controllers, who will happily check all those private messages. This is an idea I'm severely against.

The slogan "If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear", is also not something that makes me feel good. I have nothing to hide. I just don't want strangers start poking around in my personal affairs. (As far as privacy still exists, these days.)

Next to that, the criminals you're after, who are dealing in large scale child pornography, probably are way ahead of your plans. They have routes past your controls, for years, no doubt, so make sure they aren't the ones to get scanned. It's just the decent citizen whose privacy gets assaulted and molested, this way.

All in all this is an attack to the private lives of many millions of people, and I am firmly against this. I hope, for that reason, you will say a loud and resounding "NO" when this Big Brother idea comes to the vote.
